ANNAPURNA AUSTIN
Untitled,
oil paint on unprimed canvas board, 24 x 30 cm
Painting a reunion of the horror and beauty of our materiality, in the balence of origin and decay; this series of dying birds are delicate and ethereal, within their unsettling subject.
The depiction of the fall bird confronts us with the beautiful yet uncanny atmospheres that are brought out in a palette of fire and earth tones.

I Want to Grow and Bloom,
collage on card, 14.8 x 10.5 cm (2020)
I'm a current MA Illustration student at ARU but my background is actually in Classics. As such, the classical world often inspires some of my work but the most common theme throughout my work is nature and I have a particular interest in the sea. I work with pretty much every kind of media, except oil (although I would love to pick it up!) and I also work in a variety of different styles.
These pieces are all from my Fragments collection in which I create poetry from words which I have cut out from old newspapers and other paraphernalia or I create poems by using the blackout poetry method and then I illustrate them.
OPEN CALL EXHIBITION

ZOE ARMIT

Zoë Armit is 23 years old and based in Cambridge, UK and Ålesund, Norway. She has recently finished my BA degree in animation, and is hoping to use the momentum from her course to continue campaigning for those not often spoken for.
The majority of her work is dedicated to the understanding of and advocation for animals and animal rights. Much of her work from 2018 has been made with the intention of compiling an A to Z children's book of endangered animals (hoping to be finished 2022). Previously she has explored the relationship between veganism and the animal agriculture industry. She created a four minute length animation, Behind The Jugular, which has been shown (and won awards) at many festivals around the world.

ROWAN BRIGGS-SMITH
Osakana,
acrylic painted on calico fabric, 155 x 70 cm
Rowan is 16, currently studies Art, Biology, Chemistry and Maths at Hills Road Sixth form. She is enjoying finding a balance between art and science and seeing how one influences her thinking on the other.
Rowan has an interest in sewing and painting and found a 1950s dress pattern on Ebay. She wanted to paint her own material and treat the fabric as a canvas, so the dress started out on white calico, and she painted each panel individually before sewing it together.
Using screen print and acrylic paints, jrt inspiration came from looking at Japanese Kimonos, Japanese packaging and Japanese Koi fish. The acrylic gives the fabric more structure, giving the dress a strong silhouette.
